The MidwestHR 180 Initiative team was out at the West Suburban Humane Society today volunteering with their annual fundraiser, Petals for Pets. The West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) is one of the amazing non-profit institutions located in the Chicagoland area. The WSHS is a no-kill shelter and haven for stray, neglected and surrendered dogs and cats. WSHS receives homeless animals from all over the mid-western and southern states including Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee and Oklahoma. They work with organizations from those states that find strays or pull animals from high-kill shelters and transport them to areas with higher adoption rates, like Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. We are lucky to have such a wonderful organization right in our neighborhood.
The MidwestHR 180 Initiative team unloaded, organized and priced countless plants for the shelter’s annual fundraiser. We learned that prior to this year; about 5 or 6 staff members usually unloaded the semi-truck of plants and arranged them all on their own. We were able to save the staff many hours of work by stepping in to do the heavy lifting.
As one can see from the many photos and posts on social media (some included here), that our team had a blast while helping out a worthy cause. I can’t stress enough how beneficial a giving back program sponsored by the company is to the workplace. The morale boost, teambuilding and personal connections made by our staff who attend these events is noteworthy. If you are on the fence about starting a giving back program, I would recommend taking the plunge. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money or take a lot of time away from daily tasks to truly benefit your organization.
